audioShare: A GREAT RETROFIT OPTION
January 29th, 2008Lehi, Utah - (January 17, 2008), Digital Home Communications, LLC (DHC) now makes retrofitting an old intercom system with an audioShare system even easier with the new audioShare retrofit wiring pigtail.
The new wiring pigtail allows installers to quickly connect standard intercom wire to an audioShare wall or door station. “The pigtail has a convenient phoenix connector that fits various sizes of wire between 16 and 26 gauge and already has a properly terminated RJ45 connector that plugs directly into an audioShare wall or door station”, says Richard Lindsey, CTO.
The new audioShare retrofit wiring pigtail has had a great introduction in many recent retrofit projects. For example, a homeowner complained of a non-working analog intercom with the radio in the kitchen’s big, ugly master unit as the only music source. They wanted better intercom functionality and more music options and flexibility. audioShare was an easy fit. The crew took out the 12 old M & S remote units and put in audioShare wallstations in their place. Because audioShare is the same size as many traditional intercoms, it was a simple replacement in each room. audioShare does not have a large master unit so some patching in the kitchen was the only drywall work to be done. Now the client has state-of-the-art monitoring, auto-volume, direct-dial, and hands-free intercom functions as well as music inputs in multiple rooms including satellite radio, CD players, iPods, and a laptop. “All of this plus we now have digital sound quality!” reports the homeowner. “I love the audioShare system!”
In addition to audioShare being similar in size to many older traditional intercoms that may not be meeting the needs of homeowners, audioShare can operate on as little as two twisted pair wires using the audioShare retrofit wiring pigtail. Twisted pair can include CAT3, CAT5 or standard intercom wiring. Wiring topology may be a daisy-chain, home-run or a hybrid of both making it ideal for replacing traditional intercoms. It is also a great retrofit when finishing a basement or adding an addition to the home.
Due to audioShare’s unique design, in-wall or in-ceiling speakers can easily be added to dress up the system and further improve the sound quality without the need for expensive home run wiring from the speakers to a central amplifier in the home. “I thought we were stuck with our old intercom system but when I found out about audioShare and its great retrofit capabilities I saw new hope in our older home wiring”, says a satisfied audioShare customer. “Don’t let that old intercom mock you, upgrade to an audioShare system!”
